In Brazil, a baby named Matheus Gabriel went viral after being born holding his motherβs contraceptive coil.
His mother, Queidy Araujo de Oliveira, had been using an IUD for two years, a device more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Doctors decided not to remove the coil during pregnancy as it posed risks, leaving it in place. Despite complications like bleeding, Matheus was delivered safely.
A doctor placed the IUD in his hand, capturing a striking photo later shared online with the caption: βMy victory trophy.β Both mother and baby are healthy.
